A woman has tragically lost her life in Newport following an altercation, leading to the launch of a murder investigation. Law enforcement, including specialized firearms units, responded to an incident outside a property on St Vincent Road during the early hours of Saturday.
The victim, who has not been officially identified yet, was pronounced deceased by paramedics near Chepstow Road. A 66-year-old man from Newport was apprehended at the scene on suspicion of murder and is currently held in police custody.
The family of the deceased has been notified and is receiving support from trained officers. Chief Superintendent John Davies expressed understanding of the community’s distress, reassuring that the arrested individual is the sole suspect in the case.
