Channing Tatum has shared the surprisingly straightforward eating strategy he adopted to shed over five stone in preparation for a movie role. The renowned actor, famous for his performances in “Step Up” and “Magic Mike,” detailed how adhering to a consistent routine facilitated one of his most striking physical transformations.
The 46-year-old celebrity disclosed that his key adjustment involved pushing back his first meal until approximately 3 pm daily. He then followed with two modest meals comprising meat and vegetables, complemented by extended, light cardio sessions.
During a recent interview, Tatum confessed that he has always found it relatively easy to manipulate his weight for film roles. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that the process has become more challenging as he has aged.
In his own words, “I used to be able to shed weight rapidly. I could fluctuate by almost 25 to 30 pounds within three weeks.”
Tatum revealed that he weighed around 245 pounds while working on a project that necessitated a “dad bod” appearance. Subsequently, he slimmed down to approximately 172 pounds for another part, equating to a loss of about 73 pounds, or slightly over five stone.
“I initially aimed to reach around 185 pounds. However, once you establish a rhythm and filming provides structure, maintaining a consistent routine becomes easier,” he remarked.
“My lifestyle, in general, lacks consistency,” Tatum added, noting that the regimen was sustained by the disciplined environment on set.
Detailing his meal plan, he explained, “I practiced fasting from waking up until about 2 or 3 pm every day. Following that, I consumed two small meals comprising meat and vegetables.”
“And that was essentially my strategy, along with light, extended cardio sessions,” Tatum continued. This routine aligns with intermittent fasting, restricting eating to specific hours of the day.
Intermittent fasting, as per the NHS, may prove effective for some individuals by potentially reducing overall caloric intake. However, sustained, successful long-term weight management hinges on maintaining a well-balanced diet and regular physical activity, rather than solely relying on a particular eating regimen.
A study featured in the New England Journal of Medicine similarly concluded that intermittent fasting could be a viable weight-loss approach for certain adults. Nevertheless, researchers emphasized that it is generally no more effective than other calorie-regulated diets when total caloric intake remains consistent.
Tatum’s statements resonate with insights previously shared by his personal chef and nutritionist, Aline Fiuza. In an interview with People, she mentioned that the actor typically initiates a physical transformation with fasting before transitioning to an intermittent fasting schedule, typically consuming meals between 1 pm and 6 pm or 7 pm.
Fiuza outlined that his diet primarily centers on vegetables, animal protein, nuts, and seeds, tailored to meet the physical demands of each role. She also elaborated that Tatum gradually reintroduces three meals a day as filming progresses.
Earlier this year, Tatum expressed his reluctance to subject his body to extreme weight fluctuations. In an Instagram post, he expressed gratitude for his trainer and chef but stated his aversion to future substantial weight changes, citing the strain it imposes on his body and the difficulty in shedding the pounds afterward.
