The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran has entered its seventh consecutive night with both sides engaging in strikes targeting infrastructure and military installations, escalating their dispute over the Strait of Hormuz.
Following the breakdown of a temporary ceasefire and peace negotiations, the conflict shows no signs of abating after more than four months of hostilities. The US Central Command reported that its latest round of strikes included hitting surveillance sites, military logistics infrastructure, underground weapons storage, and maritime capabilities.
Iran, on the other hand, issued a ‘zero hour warning’ to the US after announcing that two oil tankers attempting to pass through the strait had been set on fire. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps-Navy (IRGC-N) emphasized that they were monitoring the movements of US naval units and hinted at impending operations against them.
Iran had effectively blocked shipping traffic in the strait since the conflict began on February 28, causing oil prices to surge and granting Iran significant bargaining power. Recent US airstrikes have reportedly caused numerous casualties, with Iran alleging that dozens have been killed and hundreds wounded, including new casualties reported recently.
Amidst the escalating tensions, Kuwait claimed to intercept Iranian missiles and drones, while Iraq stated it had shot down attack drones over Irbil. US President Donald Trump, in a public address, expressed confidence in the US military’s progress in the conflict, promising swift results.
Reports also emerged of attacks on power infrastructure in Iran during the US airstrike campaign, leading to appeals for reduced power usage in affected regions. The toll of the conflict continues to rise, with Iranian officials reporting fatalities and injuries, and US authorities acknowledging additional service members injured in the recent hostilities.
The situation remains tense, with both sides showing no signs of backing down, and regional countries like Jordan and Bahrain also on high alert as the conflict unfolds.
