A man from Britain, identified as Salis Hanrahan, was fatally shot by a Vietnam veteran in what has been described as an incident involving a group known for conning and fraudulent activities. Hanrahan, aged 20 and hailing from Essex with an Irish traveller background, was working on the residence of George Barr, 75, in Philadelphia when the shooting occurred last week.
Despite being shot in the chest, Hanrahan managed to flee the house but tragically collapsed on the street and succumbed to his injuries shortly after. Reports indicate that Hanrahan was in the US illegally and associated with a group referred to as “The Traveling Conman Fraud Group”, which the FBI has labeled as a criminal gang comprising British and Irish scammers who deceive clients by overcharging for construction work that remains unfinished.
The FBI has classified the group as a criminal organization engaged in fraudulent activities. It is unclear how Hanrahan was connected to organized crime or if Barr was specifically targeted in the incident. Following the shooting, Barr, who is a retired firefighter, a Vietnam veteran, and known for overseeing a neighborhood watch, was charged with murder, possession of a weapon, and endangering another person.
An investigation into the shooting is currently underway. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Hanrahan was an illegal immigrant from the UK, having entered the US without authorization and was flagged due to his association with the criminal group. Authorities are continuing to delve into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
