A woman suffered severe burns when a violent offender poured a scalding mixture of sugar and water on her abdomen, following a previous incident where he threatened to set her on fire. Khaled Aziz, wearing a mask resembling Guy Fawkes, visited the woman’s residence, verbally assaulted her, and returned later with a fuel-like substance, threatening to ignite her while searching for a lighter. The next day, he returned, boiled sugar water, and poured it onto the woman’s stomach, causing first-degree burns.
The victim required hospital treatment for her injuries, but the abuse continued. Aziz later returned to her home, entered while she was asleep, and used hair straighteners to burn her back after threatening her. In a statement to the court, the woman described the lasting physical and emotional impact of the attacks, highlighting the fear and vulnerability she experiences daily.
Aziz, appearing in Newcastle Crown Court, received a four-and-a-half-year jail term for assault causing bodily harm. Despite a troubled past and a history of criminal offenses, the court issued a 12-year restraining order prohibiting Aziz from contacting the victim. The judge emphasized the terror inflicted on the victim during the incidents, underscoring the seriousness of Aziz’s actions.
