British Landlady Elaine McGowan Fatally Shot in Trinidad

A former British landlady was fatally shot in a daylight incident in the Caribbean. Elaine McGowan, 65, who previously managed The Castle Hotel pub in Saltwood, Kent, was murdered outside her godfather’s residence across from Trincity Mall in Trincity, northern Trinidad, as per her family’s account on July 5.

Reports from local media state that Mrs. McGowan and her husband Ian were on De La Mare Avenue when a silver Nissan Tiida approached them around 11 am. The assailant emerged from the vehicle, fired shots, and then fled the scene. Mrs. McGowan was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Centre, where she was declared deceased. Authorities are actively seeking the shooter.

Hemang Patel, a Saltwood resident who had worked at The Castle Hotel under Mrs. McGowan’s management, described her as a kind-hearted individual. He expressed disbelief at the tragic turn of events and emphasized her positive character.

Jakki Monroe, the current pub owner, expressed shock and conveyed condolences on behalf of The Castle staff. Mrs. McGowan’s sister, Joanne Butcher, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, recounting their childhood in South London and appealing for information to assist the Trinidadian police in their investigation.

A spokesperson from FCDO stated that they are providing assistance to Mrs. McGowan’s family and collaborating with local authorities. The Mirror has reached out to Trinidad and Tobago police for further details.
