A mother who was previously informed of her inability to conceive due to experiencing early menopause has defied the odds by giving birth to triplets. Marina Selim, aged 30, and her husband Bishoy Salib, 33, welcomed non-identical triplets named Miracle, Levi, and Suriel on November 28 last year. This joyous occasion came as a surprise since Marina had been diagnosed with a significantly diminished ovarian reserve, suggesting that having children would be unlikely for her.
After facing months of unsuccessful attempts to conceive and noticing a missed period, Marina sought medical advice. Test results revealed that it would be highly improbable for her to conceive naturally without the assistance of an egg donation. Despite the challenges, the couple remained hopeful, with Bishoy expressing their faith-driven perspective on the situation.
In August 2024, Marina’s anti-Müllerian hormone levels were examined, indicating a significantly low count of remaining follicles and eggs in her ovary compared to the normal range for her age group. Bishoy’s semen analysis, on the other hand, showed normal results. Medical professionals conveyed to the couple that it was highly unlikely for Marina to conceive without intervention unless her hormone levels increased significantly.
Opting to hold on to hope, Marina and Bishoy continued their efforts to conceive, even after Marina’s menstrual cycle ceased completely. To their astonishment, on May 19, 2025, a pregnancy test revealed a positive result, contrary to previous expectations.
During a routine scan at Brighton Hospital, it was revealed that Marina was not carrying just one baby but three. The couple considered this occurrence a true miracle, as it defied medical explanations. The triplets were born safely and healthy on November 28 at Royal Sussex Hospital, leaving both the couple and medical professionals puzzled by the unexpected outcome.
Despite the lack of a definitive medical explanation, Marina and Bishoy remain grateful for the miracle of their triplets’ arrival.
