The head of the American task force for the current World Cup believes the United States has the capacity to host a 64-team tournament and may even consider bidding for the 2038 event. The US is presently co-hosting the tournament with Canada and Mexico. With hosting responsibilities shared among continents until 2034, a North American bid could be on the horizon in 12 years.
Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House Task Force on the World Cup, mentioned that while it’s premature to commit to another bid, he is optimistic about the US being well-equipped to host the event in the future. He highlighted the country’s infrastructure, welcoming atmosphere, and existing stadiums as key factors in favor of a potential bid.
Giuliani expressed his enthusiasm for the possibility of the World Cup returning to the United States, emphasizing the country’s readiness to handle an expanded tournament with 64 teams. Despite concerns raised by human rights groups regarding immigration policies, the overall sentiment in host cities has been positive.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that President Donald Trump is expected to attend the final in New Jersey on July 19. While Trump has not attended any games yet, Giuliani hinted at the possibility of his appearance before the championship match, teasing potential surprises from the 47th president.
As the World Cup unfolds, the world’s admiration for the US on its 250th birthday has been evident, with Giuliani expressing delight at the global affection towards the country during the tournament.
