Former President Donald Trump has attributed the issues with his $14 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial’s reflecting pool to unspecified “vandals.” The refurbishment, which was rushed and executed by firms responsible for maintaining swimming pools in his hotels, led to the water turning green due to algae growth shortly after reopening. The presence of algae was suspected to stem from residual buildup in the pipes, exacerbated by the hot weather in Washington, D.C.
While some sections of the pool’s resurfacing material began peeling off, there is no evidence linking this occurrence to vandalism, despite tourists taking souvenirs from the damaged area. Trump’s history of ambitious yet flawed construction projects has been well-documented, with no prior instances tied to acts of vandalism.
In a social media post, Trump lamented the alleged vandalism, claiming deliberate attempts to damage the pool’s new surface. However, reports contradicted his statements, clarifying that the situation was not as severe as depicted. Trump also pointed fingers at political opponents, insinuating involvement from individuals seeking to undermine the country. Law enforcement was said to be investigating the matter, with assurances of prompt resolution.
