Prince William is anticipated to travel to the United States to watch England in the World Cup only if they reach the final match, according to sources. The Duke of Cambridge, a known football enthusiast, attended multiple Three Lions matches in Germany during the 2024 Euros, even bringing Prince George to Berlin for the final where England was defeated by Spain.
Reports suggest that William will not attend any of England’s group stage games but will only make the trip if England progresses to the final on July 18 at the New Jersey Stadium, marking their first World Cup final appearance since 1966. It is emphasized that his attendance is contingent on England’s success in the tournament, as he is a patron of the English Football Association.
When England started their World Cup campaign with a 4-2 victory over Croatia, William sent his well-wishes to the team before the match. Despite earlier speculations of his potential visit to coincide with July 4 celebrations, the current strained UK-US relations, following previous criticisms by Donald Trump, make such a visit unlikely at this time.
William has previously missed attending World Cups in controversial host countries like Qatar and Russia due to scheduling conflicts. His absence during significant football events has been noted, including his decision not to travel to Australia for the Lionesses’ World Cup final in 2023. However, he did accompany Princess Charlotte to Switzerland in the past to witness the Lionesses secure their second consecutive Euros title.
Kensington Palace has not yet confirmed William’s plans for the upcoming World Cup, but it is clear that his attendance will be determined by England’s performance in the tournament.
