Two women are in critical condition after being struck by a falling telegraph pole at a bustling train station. The incident occurred in Rhondda, Wales, with an air ambulance swiftly responding to the scene on Thursday at 12:50pm. One of the women sustained life-threatening injuries, while the other was also in a critical state following the accident at Pontyclun train station’s car park.
The telegraph pole, which carried live electricity wires, hit the women before emergency services transported them to the University Hospital of Wales. South Wales Police confirmed receiving reports of the women trapped under the pole at 12:50pm and stated that the victims are currently receiving medical care at the hospital.
Pontyclun station, situated on the south Wales line connecting Cardiff and Maesteg, is an unstaffed station that serves regional Swanline services running from Cardiff Central to Swansea.
