An Amazon delivery driver is facing allegations of taking possession of a family’s cat, claiming it is actually his own pet. Joshua Gonzalez asserts that the black-and-grey feline is his and had gone missing from his residence in the same neighborhood. Unaware of being recorded by Brenda Wilson’s doorbell camera in Bakersfield, California, Joshua admitted to simply taking the cat back to its rightful home.
As a father, Joshua emphasized that his intention was solely to retrieve his cat, ensuring it was back where it belonged. He likened the situation to that of a person searching for their lost cat, emphasizing that he had successfully found and reclaimed his pet, as any other person would do in a similar circumstance.
However, Brenda remains adamant that the cat, known as Junie to her family, belongs to them. Despite sharing the footage with the Bakersfield police, no legal charges have been filed against Joshua. Expressing shock and disbelief over the incident, Brenda reiterated her claim that the cat is indeed hers.
Amazon has confirmed that Joshua, working for a third-party company, has been prohibited from delivering Amazon packages. The company stated its cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation. Joshua has since presented documentation indicating his ownership of the cat, with adoption records dated October 9, 2025, mentioning that he selected the cat for his seven-year-old daughter.
Highlighting distinctive features of the cat, Joshua insisted that he recognized his pet immediately and took it home. He emphasized the cat’s familiarity with its surroundings and toys, denying any malicious intent in retrieving his cat. The police have confirmed an ongoing investigation into the matter, as conflicting claims persist between Joshua and Brenda.
An Amazon spokesperson reiterated the driver’s employment status and the company’s collaboration with authorities. They emphasized the commitment to law enforcement and deferred to them for further details on the investigation.
