After winning a £3.5 million mansion in Cornwall, a barman named Darren Summers, 50, joyfully declared that the drinks were now on the house. Darren, who operates a pub in Rhondda Fawr valley, South Wales, and his wife Rebecca, 36, who works as a Healthcare Support Assistant for the NHS, are now the proud owners of a contemporary four-bedroom home overlooking Downderry Beach.
The stunning property, which is mortgage-free, comes with panoramic sea views, an outdoor swimming pool, and a hot tub. Darren secured his winning ticket for just £20 through his Omaze subscription.
Upon receiving the news, Darren expressed his disbelief and humorously offered free drinks to anyone at his pub. The prize also included £250,000 in cash to assist with settling in, covering all stamp duty and legal fees.
Previously residing in a three-bedroom house for three years, Darren was overwhelmed by the unexpected win. The new mansion spans 3,425 sq ft over two floors, featuring luxurious amenities such as floor-to-ceiling glass doors, a coastal dining terrace, and a heated swimming pool. The property also includes a home office, bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, and a lounge area.
Excited about the future, Darren shared plans of hosting family gatherings and BBQs by the pool in their new home, describing it as a dream come true. Reflecting on the impact of the win, Darren emphasized how it has alleviated financial worries and brought immense joy to their close-knit family.
The prize draw, organized by Omaze in collaboration with the Eden Project, raised £1 million and pledged an additional £3.5 million to support the charity’s initiatives. Matt Pohlson, Omaze’s founder and CEO, expressed delight over Darren’s win and the substantial contributions made to charitable causes through their platform.
Entries for the next Omaze Million Pound House Draw in Surrey are currently open on omaze.co.uk, offering participants a chance to win another remarkable property.
