A group of children in Spain received a one-week suspension after being accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl. The incident allegedly occurred during a birthday party at a public venue near their school in Burgos, northern Spain.
The girl’s family reported the incident to the police last month, leading to an investigation. The girl reportedly suffered trauma from the assault. The children involved are aged 11 or 12, below the criminal responsibility age of 14, so they cannot be prosecuted for the alleged assault.
Authorities in Burgos and the school community are aware of the case, and the police have handed over the investigation report to the Juvenile Prosecutor’s office. The accused students were initially expelled but were allowed to return to school after one week, with measures taken to separate them from other students to prevent stigmatization.
Separately, Spanish police are investigating alleged sexual assaults on about 10 teenage girls who claim they were assaulted on a cruise after having their drinks spiked. The incidents were reported when the cruise docked in Barcelona on May 1. While no arrests have been made yet, the suspects have been identified and located.
