“Arsenal Fan Ends Decade-Long Beard Pledge”

An Arsenal enthusiast who made a solemn promise to let his beard grow until his beloved team clinched the league title has finally decided to part ways with his facial hair after a decade. Rafal Goral, aged 45, took out his clippers over the weekend to bid farewell to his impressive 57cm beard. The refinery worker expressed feeling like he had lost a part of his identity by shaving off the beard he had been nurturing since 2016.

Back in March of that year, Rafal had pledged to cease shaving as Arsenal, under the management of Arsène Wenger at the time, endured a lengthy 12-year drought without securing the Premier League title. During this period, Rafal witnessed four other teams claim the championship, while Arsenal’s quest for glory remained unfulfilled.

However, Rafal’s joy knew no bounds when Mikel Arteta’s squad emerged victorious last month. To mark the occasion, he dyed his beard red and ceremoniously removed it during Arsenal’s Premier League Title parade on Sunday.

Reflecting on his decision, Rafal, hailing from Chelmsford, Essex, admitted to feeling somewhat estranged from himself post-shave. Despite the emotional challenge, he remained resolute, stating, “I was trembling inside, but I stand by my word. C’mon, you Gunners.”

In the aftermath, Rafal acknowledged the mixed feelings of anticipation and reluctance towards revealing his new look to others. He humorously mentioned that his girlfriend was dismayed by the change and quipped about no longer resembling a Viking in her eyes.

Remaining true to his decade-old commitment, Rafal impressed his colleagues, including some Tottenham Hotspur supporters who had doubted his perseverance. A loyal Arsenal supporter for close to two decades, Rafal recounted how he had boldly proclaimed his vow amidst a sea of Spurs fans at work.

Reflecting on his long journey, Rafal shared, “People didn’t believe I would do it, but for the last three years, I kept saying the clippers were ready when we finished 2nd.” Despite the initial irritation and impatience, Rafal remained steadfast, hoping for an earlier end to his beard-growing saga.
