An intense earthquake has hit the southern region of Italy, causing significant damage in Naples. The quake, measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale, resulted in power outages in various neighborhoods, prompting residents to flee to the streets in panic. The seismic event occurred shortly before 8 pm local time.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reported the earthquake’s magnitude as 4.7, leading to power disruptions from Pizzofalcone to Fuorigrotta and a substantial landslide in Pozzuoli. Although minor structural damages were reported by the Italian fire service in the Naples area, no immediate requests for rescue operations were made.

As a precautionary measure, local authorities suspended rail and metro services. Social media footage captured moments after the earthquake depicted the aftermath of a major landslide triggered by the seismic activity. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre’s map highlighted the quake’s impact on buildings in Naples and its vicinity.

The earthquake, with an epicenter in the Campi Flegrei area west of Naples and a depth of approximately 3 km (2 miles), was recorded at 7:46 pm. A video showcased a significant landslide in Pozzuoli, showcasing large rocks strewn across streets. Reports on the r/Earthquakes subreddit illustrated scenes of devastation following the earthquake.

Despite the turmoil, no injuries were reported from the massive landslide in Pozzuoli. Power outages extended from Pizzofalcone to Fuorigrotta, prompting many frightened individuals to seek safety outdoors.
