Tragedy struck as a woman passed away following a swimming incident in the waters near Plymouth.
Authorities revealed that the woman encountered health complications after swimming at Devil’s Point in Plymouth, situated on the eastern side where the River Tamar converges with the English Channel.
Devon and Cornwall Police received a distress call around 4:50 pm on Saturday, July 11, reporting a woman in distress following a swimming session.
Emergency services, including two land ambulances and an air ambulance, rushed to the scene. Despite medical efforts, the woman, aged in her 60s, was declared deceased.
Law enforcement confirmed that the incident is not deemed suspicious, and the woman’s relatives have been notified.
A spokesperson from Devon and Cornwall Police stated: “We received a call at approximately 4:50 pm on Saturday, July 11, regarding a woman experiencing a medical emergency after swimming at Devil’s Point in Plymouth.
“Despite the response from emergency services, the local woman in her 60s tragically passed away.
“Her family has been informed.
“The circumstances surrounding the death are not suspicious.”
A representative from the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) mentioned: “We were alerted at 16:34hrs on Saturday, July 11, to an incident in Plymouth.
“Our response included dispatching two fully-equipped land ambulances, an air ambulance, and an operations officer to the location.”
