WestJet flight attendants have approved a new collective agreement with the airline, with a strong 90.2 percent vote in favor of the deal. The Canadian Union of Public Employees announced that the agreement entails an increase in wages of more than 18 percent over a three-year period, along with additional compensation for ground work. Under the terms of the contract, employees will see a 13 percent wage raise in October, followed by a 2.75 percent increase in January, and a further 2.5 percent raise at the beginning of 2028. The newly established three-year agreement will be effective from January 1, 2026, until December 31, 2028.
The negotiations for this deal were notably challenging, especially concerning boarding pay, leading to a one-day strike by approximately 4,400 cabin crew members earlier this month. The aviation sector has witnessed various labor disputes in recent years, with strikes by Air Canada flight attendants and WestJet mechanics causing temporary disruptions to operations at the country’s top two airlines.
