“Ukraine Launches Massive Military Offensive on Russia”

Ukraine has initiated a significant military offensive targeting various regions in Russia, including Moscow and occupied Crimea, in a decisive move against President Vladimir Putin. This overnight attack marks the beginning of a “40-day” period of intense warfare on Russia, as ordered by President Volodymyr Zelensky with the aim of compelling Russia to cease its aggression towards Ukraine.

Simultaneously, there are emerging reports suggesting that the Kremlin could be contemplating an assault on either one of the Baltic States or Poland as a form of retribution for their support of Ukraine in the conflict. Belarus, a neighboring country and an ally of Russia, is reportedly fortifying its border with military personnel and camps under pressure from Putin to align with his stalled invasion efforts. Prior to the recent offensive, Zelensky stated, “I approved a 40-day operation to exert pressure on the aggressor state for the purpose of ending the war.”

During the recent attacks, approximately 660 Ukrainian attack drones were deployed against Russia, with some targeting a chemical facility in the Tula region and other military installations. This offensive, coming shortly after Zelensky’s warning of retaliation against Russia, is considered one of Ukraine’s most substantial deep-strikes to date.

For the second time in a week, thick black smoke enveloped the sky over Moscow, raising concerns that Putin might authorize strikes on NATO member countries soon. The targeted Azot chemical plant in Tula is a key player in Russia’s chemical industry, producing a range of industrial chemicals crucial for defense manufacturing. Residents reported hearing explosions and observing drones for extended periods, alongside a distinct smell of ammonia and intermittent power disruptions. Similar incidents occurred in Russian-occupied Crimea, with explosions near the Kerch ferry crossing and residents detecting burning odors and smoke.

The Kerch region serves as a vital military logistics junction for Russia, connecting occupied Crimea to the mainland. Zelensky confirmed additional attacks on two Russian oil refineries in Ufa, over 1,000 miles from the frontlines, and an oil depot in the Krasnodar region, 250 miles away from Ukraine, was also struck, impacting Russian infrastructure.

The recent Ukrainian assault on Russia coincides with intelligence reports from Eastern European agencies suggesting Putin may be orchestrating attacks on Poland or a Baltic State due to their support for Ukraine. While a large-scale attack by Russia seems improbable, the focus might shift to smaller terrorist-style incidents or isolated missile strikes. Putin’s frustration is mounting as Ukrainian strikes on Russian infrastructure intensify while his forces encounter challenges in eastern Ukraine.

Since the invasion of Ukraine, instances of Russian sabotage have been reported, including incidents like planting firebombs in DHL parcels across the UK, Poland, and Germany in the summer of 2024. Additionally, Russian decoy drones breached Polish airspace last September, prompting NATO intervention. However, Ukraine has demonstrated advanced capabilities in conducting deep strike drone and missile attacks, reaching targets over 1,500 miles inside Russia.
