Ukraine has intensified its assaults on Russian positions in Crimea, which was annexed illegally, aiming to isolate it from mainland Russia.
Special forces from Kyiv collaborated with Crimea resistance fighters to demolish a crucial logistics bridge in Crimea and targeted over 60 Russian military sites during the night.
These actions followed a series of drone and missile attacks on both sides of the Kerch Strait and the bridge constructed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, costing £3 billion, to connect the two regions. A Ukrainian source mentioned that this strike significantly impacted Putin as the bridge symbolized his influence expansion and connection to Crimea, taken back by Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disclosed that Putin is relocating air defense systems closer to Moscow and the Kerch Bridge, as a response to the situation.
Zelensky emphasized the readiness of Ukraine to take justified actions against Russia’s continued aggression and strikes on Ukrainian territory, highlighting the importance of diplomatic resolutions. He praised those defending Ukraine against external threats.
The recent attacks by Kyiv have resulted in power outages and fuel shortages, plunging half of Crimea into darkness as a tactic to pressure the Kremlin to halt the conflict. Ukrainian forces targeted more than 60 locations using medium-range drones with ranges spanning from 20 to 120 miles.
Infrastructure including power plants and gas distribution stations in Crimea were severely damaged, along with the destruction of a drone pilot training facility in Donetsk. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov remarked on the increasing isolation of Crimea due to drone attacks, predicting a challenging future for the peninsula.
Explosions reverberated across Crimea overnight, leading to the closure of the Kerch Bridge to traffic, effectively isolating the region. The combined efforts of the attacks on Crimea and Russia’s energy supplies aim to compel Putin to reconsider his stance on the conflict.
Despite Ukraine’s strategic moves, Russia retaliated by targeting Ukrainian energy facilities, resulting in casualties, including deaths in various regions of Ukraine. The escalating tensions indicate the high cost both sides are paying in this conflict.
