A woman from the UK, identified as Elisabeth-Jane Ross, was tragically found deceased inside a suitcase in Athens. Prior to her death, she had informed her Greek acquaintances that she intended to spend time with a group of unidentified Americans in the Kypseli area of Athens. Her body was discovered by a homeless individual who noticed a leg protruding from the luggage in an abandoned structure on Evelpidon Street on July 18.
According to reports, Ross, aged 38, had been residing with friends in the Keratsini district near Athens’ main port before disclosing her plans to move to Kypseli on July 15. Authorities indicated that she had not provided detailed information about her American companions to her Greek friends. Investigations are ongoing to determine if messages were sent from Ross’s phone posthumously in an attempt to create a false impression of her whereabouts.
Born in Scotland in February 1988, Ross is believed to have passed away approximately five to seven days before her body was discovered. She had reportedly traveled to Greece from Cyprus the previous month. Despite her DNA not matching any local records, she was identified through Interpol and US databases using her fingerprints. Initial forensic examinations did not reveal any apparent injuries or signs of a struggle, but further post-mortem analysis is expected to shed light on the circumstances of her death.
Authorities from Police Scotland have been in contact with Greek officials concerning Ross’s demise. The Foreign Office has expressed condolences to Ross’s family and stated that they are providing necessary consular assistance during this challenging period.
