Due to the upcoming heatwave with temperatures potentially exceeding 35C, there will be disruptions in train services in the UK. Passengers are advised by the Met Office to only travel if necessary, as temperatures are forecasted to reach the mid-30s in some regions.
To minimize the impact of extreme heat on the railway, East Midlands Railway (EMR) has announced changes in their services for the week. Travel before noon is recommended to avoid peak temperatures, and passengers are urged to check for any schedule modifications before embarking on their journey.
EMR will suspend certain regional services from Wednesday afternoon between Nottingham and Worksop, as well as Nottingham and Leicester. Additionally, other services will operate at reduced speeds for safety precautions.
The high temperatures can pose risks such as rail buckling, sagging overhead electric wires, and lineside fires. EMR’s customer experience director, Philippa Cresswell, emphasized the need for temporary service adjustments to ensure safe railway operations during the hot weather.
For those who must travel, it is advised to undertake journeys before midday and stay updated on any changes. EMR is continuously evaluating its plans for Thursday and Friday, and passengers are urged to check for updates before traveling on those days.
