Symptoms such as muscle cramps, headaches, nausea, and excessive sweating, along with fatigue, collectively indicate heat exhaustion. Staying hydrated and seeking shade can help prevent these symptoms in most individuals, but certain groups are at higher risk.

If someone displays signs of heat exhaustion, prompt cooling is necessary. The NHS lists symptoms of heat exhaustion, and four steps can be taken to lower body temperature, with improvement typically seen in 30 minutes. Remaining with the individual until they recover is advised, and if symptoms escalate, dialing 999 is crucial.

Recognizing signs of heatstroke is essential, as it is a medical emergency that can be fatal. To prevent heat-related illnesses, the NHS recommends staying cool, hydrated, and avoiding strenuous activity in hot conditions.
