“Trump’s Name Removal Commences at Kennedy Center”

The removal of Donald Trump’s name from the Kennedy Center has commenced following a court order mandating its elimination from the renowned performing arts venue.

On Friday, scaffolding was erected around the section of the building that previously displayed Trump’s name. However, due to thunderstorms in the Washington area causing delays, the Kennedy Center requested an extension of the deadline until noon Eastern Time on Saturday.

The Kennedy Center assured in a filing that the removal work was in progress and would be completed in the early hours of the morning. Workers were seen covering the scaffolding with tarps before proceeding to take down Trump’s name.

A crowd gathered on the plaza in front of the Kennedy Center, cheering and taking pictures as workers dismantled the signage. Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-Ohio, who had sued for the removal of Trump’s name, was present at the scene.

Earlier on Friday, a judge denied a request to postpone the court-ordered deadline. Despite appeals by the institution, the ruling was upheld later in the evening.

During his return to office, Trump exerted significant influence over the Kennedy Center, leading to the addition of his name to the building. However, a U.S. District Judge ruled that only Congress could authorize changes to the venue’s name, blocking planned renovations that were deemed necessary by the Kennedy Center’s leadership.

While the Kennedy Center resisted efforts to remove Trump’s name, it complied with the initial ruling by adjusting email signatures and communication materials. The website no longer displays Trump’s name, and promotional emails for events no longer include his name.
