“Train Fire Halts Penn Station Services”

A train fire in a New York rail yard has led to the suspension of services at Penn Station, the busiest train station in the western hemisphere. The incident involved an Amtrak work train at the West Side rail yard in Manhattan. Five railway employees were injured and treated for smoke inhalation, with two of them sustaining serious injuries.

NJ Transit and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) services have been halted, while Amtrak services are facing significant delays. Emergency services responded to the scene on 10th Avenue and 31st Street, where thick black smoke engulfed the area around 1:30 am EDT (6:30 am BST).

Firefighters are currently on 10th Avenue and 31st Street addressing a track fire in one of the Hudson River Tunnels. The fire broke out on an Amtrak train at the West Side rail yard in Manhattan, New York, leading to the injuries of five railroad workers due to smoke inhalation.
