Montreal authorities reported the unfortunate death of a woman following a fire outbreak at an encampment in the Montréal-Nord area early Wednesday. Emergency services were alerted at approximately 4:50 a.m. when a bystander noticed the blaze near the junction of Charleroi Street and Lacordaire Boulevard.
Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an unconscious woman who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Regrettably, she was later pronounced deceased by officials. While there are conflicting accounts regarding her age, it is believed she was in her 40s or 50s.
The Montreal Fire Department confirmed that by the time firefighters reached the location, the fire had already been put out. The arson unit is scheduled to conduct investigations at the site to determine the cause of the fire, which remains unknown at this time.
