The Met Office has issued a thunderstorm alert for six counties scheduled for Tuesday. The warning will be active in Northern Ireland from midday until 9pm, advising residents to prepare for possible flash floods. The weather agency anticipates some flooding in homes and businesses, affecting driving conditions with spray, standing water, or hail, potentially leading to longer travel times.
Train service delays are also foreseeable, along with the risk of lightning strikes causing damage to structures. Northern Ireland may experience up to 30mm of rain within a two-hour period, alongside strong winds and hail during the heaviest showers.
In addition to flood preparations, individuals are encouraged to ready themselves for potential power outages. The Met Office suggests gathering essential items like torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other necessities to better manage power cuts.
Despite the ongoing high temperatures across most of the country, the warning remains in place. London is expected to reach 34C, the Midlands at 32C, the north-west at 29C, and Cardiff at 27C. Cooler temperatures are forecasted for Northern Ireland and Scotland, with expected highs of 21C in both Belfast and Glasgow.
According to the BBC Weather forecast, the north and west regions will experience cloudiness with heavy rain, while Scotland will have showery rain with a risk of lightning. The rest of the country can expect a mix of sunny intervals, patchy clouds, and scattered showers.
