“The Assembly” Returns: Unscripted Show Features Celebrity Interviews & Neurodivergent Adults

CBC’s popular unscripted show, “The Assembly,” is set to make a comeback for its second season, featuring six fresh celebrity interviews and a diverse group of over 30 neurodivergent and autistic adults who will pose the questions this time around.

The celebrity lineup for this season includes actors like Hudson Williams (“Heated Rivalry”), Zach Galifianakis (“The Hangover”), and Jay Baruchel (“This is the End”). Additionally, familiar faces from the first season, along with new participants, will take part as interviewers.

The show’s unique format allows for unscripted, candid conversations that delve beyond typical promotional discussions, often leading to personal and unexpected revelations. Previous seasons have seen guests like Jann Arden discussing family struggles and Howie Mandel opening up about his accidental disclosure of living with obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Inspired by the French program “Les Rencontres du Papotin,” which featured renowned figures like Camille Cottin and Emmanuel Macron, “The Assembly” has gained international acclaim. Previous seasons have included guests such as Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Stephen Fry.

The inaugural season of “The Assembly” received accolades including a Canadian Screen Award for best direction, three Telly Awards, and recognition at the Yorkton Film Festival. The show’s return promises to deliver more heartfelt moments, genuine humor, and authentic dialogues that resonate with viewers.

CBC’s Executive Director of Unscripted Content, Jennifer Dettman, expressed enthusiasm for the interviewers’ fresh approach in the first season, while Executive Producers Stephen Sawchuk and Sean De Vries assure that the upcoming season will continue to prioritize human connection and authentic storytelling.

Produced by Vancouver-based Small Army Entertainment, “The Assembly” Season 2 premieres on Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on CBC TV and CBC Gem. Exclusive “producer’s cuts” will be available on CBC Gem starting at 9 a.m. ET on the same day.
