“Teenage Girl Found Dead in Suitcase, Parents Devastated”

The grieving parents of a teenage girl who was discovered deceased in a suitcase shared their devastation, expressing that their worst fears had been realized.

Tunchanok Donhomla, aged 17, went missing on June 25 in Pattaya, Thailand. Authorities found her lifeless body, unclothed and folded inside a suitcase near railway tracks. Simon Peter Carman, a 45-year-old British-Australian man, faces charges of murder, body concealment, body tampering, and exploitation of a minor aged 15 to 18. Her parents expressed profound shock and disbelief at her tragic death. Oradee Bussarakum, her stepmother, conveyed, “We were still hoping she would be found alive when they discovered her.” Thongchai Donhomla, her father, described his daughter as caring, generous, and self-reliant. He recalled, “My daughter, without a mother, always found ways to fend for herself and assist me as well.”

Travelling from Kalasin, a province in northeast Thailand, the parents searched for their daughter after her friends reported her disappearance. They revealed that she had only been in Pattaya for a few days before the unfortunate incident. Ms. Oradee mentioned that her stepdaughter had requested money from her grandmother to visit Pattaya for a holiday with a friend.

Although it was her first trip to the city known for its vibrant nightlife, her parents allowed her to go with a friend. The suspect, Simon Carman, was apprehended at Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Thai authorities allege that he picked up the teenager from Pattaya’s Beach Road area, with her friends reporting her absence after not hearing from her.

Carman expressed condolences to the family and expressed regret over the events. However, police doubt his claim that the teenager vanished while he was asleep. Col. Anek Sarathongyu stated that Carman is detained on suspicion of murder, noting defensive injuries on his neck indicative of a struggle.

Video footage captured after his arrest shows Carman attributing neck scratches to spiders. Reports indicate signs of a struggle in the hotel room shared by the teen and Carman. Allegedly, a dispute over payment led to a fatal confrontation, with Carman claiming self-defense.

If convicted, Carman could potentially face life imprisonment or the death penalty in Thailand.
