A 16-year-old teenager is in critical condition after plummeting from a moving train while engaging in “train surfing” in Sydney, Australia. The incident occurred between St Peters and Sydenham stations in Sydney’s inner west. The teen sustained severe head and arm injuries and received immediate medical attention from New South Wales Ambulance personnel before being swiftly transported to Royal Price Alfred Hospital.
According to reports, the young boy was attempting the perilous act of “train surfing,” which involves riding on the exterior of a moving train. The New South Wales Police, responding to the scene, were informed that the teenager had fallen from a train compartment onto the tracks.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, which has led to significant disruptions in rail services. The Daily Telegraph disclosed that the occurrence took place on a Tangara model train, commonly known as a T-set. This particular train model has become the subject of increased scrutiny due to the dangerous practice of “train surfing.”
In response to such incidents, the New South Wales government initiated a commitment to equip all double-decker T-set trains with anti-surfing mechanisms by the end of 2026. This safety measure aims to deter individuals from engaging in the risky trend of “train surfing.”
