“Steve-O Reveals Early ‘Jackass’ Pay: $200 for Goldfish Stunt”

Almost 30 years ago, the groundbreaking show “Jackass” debuted on MTV with a simple yet iconic introduction by Johnny Knoxville. The show featured Knoxville and his 11 castmates engaging in extreme stunts and pranks that propelled them to instant fame. Among the cast, Steve-O stood out for his daring and outlandish antics. In a recent interview with Playboy, Steve-O shared insights into the early days of the show, revealing the meager compensation they received for their risky endeavors.

Despite being broke and homeless, Steve-O found himself thrust into stardom with minimal financial reward during the first season of “Jackass.” Recalling the paltry payment structure based on individual stunts rather than episodes, he humorously disclosed that he earned a mere $200 for one of his most infamous acts involving a live goldfish. This stunt, aptly named “The Goldfish,” marked Steve-O’s debut in the Jackass series and showcased his willingness to push boundaries for entertainment.

Reflecting on his relentless pursuit of shock value, Steve-O admitted the inherent risks and personal pride that drove him to perform increasingly daring stunts. From swallowing a goldfish to getting bitten by a shark, each stunt came with a price tag, with Steve-O earning a modest sum of $1,500 for the entire first season of the show.

In a surprising revelation, Steve-O disclosed his pre-Jackass endeavor of attending Clown College in a bid to be taken more seriously in the stunt industry. This unexpected career move showcased his determination to establish credibility in a field known for its audacious displays.

While “Jackass” enjoyed a brief run on MTV from 2000 to 2001, its impact extended beyond television with subsequent movies and spin-offs. As the franchise prepares to conclude with the release of “Jackass: Best and Last,” Steve-O confirmed that this installment would serve as a final tribute to the cast’s enduring legacy. Embracing the end of an era, the cast members are set to deliver one last unforgettable performance in theaters on July 2.
