“Sexual Assault Allegation at Chicago Frat Party Sparks Investigation”

Police are currently investigating a sexual assault allegation made by a woman who attended a fraternity party close to the University of Chicago campus. This incident has raised concerns about sexual violence in college settings. As of Wednesday, no charges have been filed by Chicago police, but university officials disclosed that a person of interest has been identified.

The situation in Chicago is unfolding amidst a controversy at Cornell University involving a woman’s claim of being drugged and gang-raped by fraternity members in 2024. Despite internal disciplinary measures taken by the university following a campus inquiry, no criminal charges were pressed in that case.

The University of Chicago, known for its high academic standards and large student body, confirmed that a woman reported being sexually assaulted at an early Sunday party held at the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house. Following the assault, the perpetrator fled the scene upon being confronted by another individual. The 21-year-old victim reported the incident to law enforcement and received medical attention, although she is not affiliated with the university as a student.

Details from the police report reveal that the woman, after feeling unwell at the party, was found partially undressed in a bathroom with a man by her friends. They mentioned having to push through a group of men cheering and seeming to support the situation inside the bathroom.

Contrary to the allegations, Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity stated that none of its members were involved in the assault or condoned such behavior. The fraternity’s chapter at the University of Chicago emphasized that their members promptly intervened to assist the victim after being alerted by her friends and immediately ended the party.

The identified person of interest is reportedly not associated with the university in any capacity. The Cornell incident, where a woman accused fraternity members of sexual assault, led to the university’s decision to halt fraternity house parties until the following year and involve the New York State Police in campus sexual assault investigations. Additionally, the University of Arizona recently suspended fraternity activities due to multiple reports of assaults, hazing, and other violations.
