A security guard sustained severe injuries following an alleged brutal attack by a passenger on a train during a ticket inspection. The incident involved a 26-year-old individual who fell from a train traveling at 120km/h (75mph), resulting in significant head trauma. The altercation occurred when the rail worker collided with a train door during a physical confrontation with a 36-year-old passenger, as reported by Bild.
This incident transpired near Ettlingen-Bruchhausen in western Germany on a regional train operated by Deutsche Bahn, the nation’s primary rail service provider. The train was en route from Offenburg to Karlsruhe when the altercation unfolded on a Friday evening.
The confrontation reportedly began after the German passenger was requested to present his ticket, leading to a verbal dispute that prompted the intervention of two security guards. A physical altercation ensued between the allegedly intoxicated passenger and the 26-year-old Bulgarian security guard, resulting in the guard being pushed against a door with such force that a portion of the door allegedly broke off.
It is customary for train operators to be alerted when a door opens while the train is in motion, triggering an immediate emergency stop. However, this protocol was reportedly not followed on the day of the incident.
An investigation has been initiated into the incident, which is being treated as a matter of high priority. The 36-year-old suspect was apprehended on the train and charged, although the specific offenses are yet to be disclosed.
Emergency services discovered the injured security guard near the tracks, approximately 1.25 miles from where the train eventually came to a halt. A similar event occurred in February, wherein a train conductor lost his life after being attacked by a fare-evading passenger in Rhineland-Palatinate, also in western Germany.
The 26-year-old perpetrator was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime of manslaughter.
