Madeleine McCann’s younger brother, Sean McCann, is thrilled to represent Scotland at the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2026. Sean, aged 21, is set to debut in the swimming events this weekend. Madeleine went missing in 2007 at the age of three, while Sean was just two years old.
Sean, a talented distance freestyler, is gearing up to compete in the freestyle relay events at the scaled-down Games. Madeleine’s disappearance in 2007 sparked a global search effort.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Sean shared, “I’m very excited for my first senior games and eager to give my best representing Scotland,” in a statement from Loughborough University, where he studies. He highlighted the significance of competing at the Commonwealth Games, especially in his home country, with family support adding to the moment’s significance.
Recalling his journey, Sean mentioned how training at Loughborough University has helped him excel, surrounded by top athletes who motivate and challenge him. Sean emphasized the importance of mental strength in distance swimming and his approach to racing as an underdog without feeling pressured.
Sean also revealed that his decision to study Chemical Engineering at Loughborough was influenced by the institution’s reputation for nurturing distance swimmers. He praised the campus’s athletic environment, facilities, and quality of training.
The opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games will feature King Charles emphasizing unity in his speech, with KT Tunstall headlining the event at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro. The ceremony promises a dynamic mix of music, humor, and Scottish flair, culminating in the King officially inaugurating the Games by reading a message from the King’s Baton.
