Greek authorities are investigating the death of a Scottish woman, Elisabeth-Jane Ross, whose body was discovered inside a suitcase in an abandoned building in Kypseli, Athens. The 38-year-old, also known as Lisa, went missing on July 15 and was found by a homeless individual on July 18. Police suspect she may have been deceased for approximately eight days prior to the discovery.
A post-mortem examination is underway, and toxicology tests are being expedited to determine the cause of Elisabeth’s death. Authorities have disclosed that no fingerprints or DNA were found on the suitcase where her body was located.
Konstantina Dimoglidou, a police spokesperson, emphasized the importance of identifying the person responsible for leaving the suitcase, noting the absence of any trace evidence. The investigation has involved the full homicide division of the Greek FBI, with collaboration from other law enforcement agencies to resolve the case.
The exact cause of Elisabeth’s death remains undetermined, and whether the incident is classified as a homicide is yet to be confirmed. Greek police anticipate receiving test results in the upcoming days. A homeless man known as ‘Markos,’ who frequented the area where Elisabeth was found, has been labeled as the prime suspect. Markos, described as a drug user and heavy drinker in his 40s, has not been seen in the vicinity since the discovery of the body.
Elisabeth traveled to Greece from the United States via Cyprus on June 29 and was residing in Keratsini with Greek acquaintances who have been cleared of any suspicion. She had mentioned visiting “American friends” in Kypseli before her disappearance. Authorities are actively attempting to identify these individuals to progress the investigation.
