Canada’s Sarah Mitton secured the second spot in the women’s shot put competition at the Diamond League Final held at King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. Mitton, aged 30, achieved her top throw on her initial attempt, launching the shot put to a distance of 20.64 meters, ultimately placing behind American athlete Chase Jackson.
The 32-year-old Jackson clinched her third Diamond League Final victory with an impressive throw of 21.14 meters, surpassing her competitors. Despite being a two-time world champion, Jackson surpassed her personal best by 0.012 meters to claim the win. Netherlands’ Jessica Schilder took the third position after a solid effort of 20.57 meters on her third try.
Sarah Mitton, who had recently defended her Commonwealth Games title in July, aimed to secure her second Diamond League Trophy within three years. However, her victory hopes were dashed last year when she was disqualified following a successful challenge to her winning throw. Mitton’s second attempt, measuring 20.67 meters, was invalidated after judges determined that she had stepped out of the throwing circle before the shot landed, rendering her throw null. Additionally, there were concerns that she had touched the front toe board during the attempt.
