An inquiry has determined that a Russian drone was responsible for striking a residential building in Romania. President Nicusor Dan revealed the results of the investigation into a drone incident in GalaČ›i, stating that a technical report concluded the drone involved was a Geran-2 of Russian origin, despite Russian President Vladimir Putin’s denial.
The drone crashed into a building in Galati, Romania, near the Ukrainian border, during ongoing Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. Analysis of the drone’s components, including electrical parts and engine, confirmed its Russian origin.
President Dan emphasized the gravity of the situation, holding Russia solely accountable. The incident resulted in minor injuries and evacuations. NATO confirmed the Russian origin of the drone, with Secretary-General Mark Rutte condemning Russia’s actions.
President Dan called for a strong response from allies and requested additional anti-drone measures. Despite attempts by Romanian fighter jets to intercept the drone, civilians’ safety prevented engagement. The EU is preparing further sanctions against Russia, with President Ursula von der Leyen condemning Russia’s aggression.
Russia’s use of drones and missiles in Ukraine has escalated tensions. Putin accused Romania of premature conclusions, prompting the closure of a Russian consulate. However, he expressed willingness to assess objective evidence on the incident. The situation remains tense as Ukraine braces for further attacks.
