Passengers and airport personnel were evacuated from a major international airport in Russia after receiving a warning about potential missile threats. Kurumoch Airport in Samara, located in the southwest of the country and serving over three million travelers annually, has temporarily halted all flight operations due to a regional security alert.
The Samara region is frequently targeted by Ukrainian missiles due to its industrial infrastructure, including oil refineries and logistics centers like the Wildberries warehouse, which was recently attacked. In response to the missile threat, individuals were instructed to vacate the airport premises, with flight services for the following day also suspended.
A statement from the airport confirmed the organized evacuation of passengers and staff to ensure safety, with personnel on standby to provide assistance as needed. Additionally, Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev verified the missile alert for the region, leading to the evacuation of various public facilities such as city buildings, schools, and medical centers.
Recent drone attacks by Ukraine on Russia have impacted multiple Wildberries depots, with a warehouse in the Samara region being struck by drones, causing a fire that destroyed the building but resulted in no casualties. These attacks are part of Kyiv’s strategy to disrupt Moscow’s operations and weaken its economy, targeting key locations across Russia.
Furthermore, Ukrainian drone strikes have caused fatalities and infrastructure damage in various Russian regions, including the Saratov region near Samara.
