“Rescuers Save Missing Woman Trapped in ‘Quicksand’ Mud”

Two individuals rescued a missing woman who had disappeared for three days by locating her trapped in a muddy patch resembling ‘quicksand’ about a hundred miles away from her home.

Kathryn Woessner, 68, went missing on June 3 from Akeley, Minnesota, causing distress among her loved ones. Adam Sandbeck and Mike Gravalin, her friends, set out on their all-terrain vehicles from Minneapolis, a considerable distance from her residence, three days later.

Following an impulsive decision to take an alternative route, the duo stumbled upon her submerged in the muddy pool off the main track. Their attention was drawn to an abandoned van in a remote location, questioning its suitability for the challenging terrain they were navigating.

Initially mistaking her for a lifeless body, the men soon realized she was alive when she whispered for help. Despite Ms. Woessner being in a critical condition, they swiftly extricated her from the mire and sought emergency assistance.

After being taken to the hospital, investigations are ongoing to determine how Ms. Woessner, a vulnerable individual, ended up so far from her home and stranded on the secluded path.

The rescuers recounted their experience to KARE, with Mr. Sandbeck expressing, “We noticed a figure in the puddle near the van, and that’s when reality hit.” He added, “Initially, we assumed she was deceased. However, her plea for help startled us. She likened it to quicksand, indicating she was trapped and had been there for a while.

“I strongly believe that if we hadn’t chosen that path, the outcome for Kathryn would have been vastly different. This was undoubtedly a divine intervention, guiding us to her, as there was no logical reason for us to venture onto those narrow trails.

“We were destined to be there. It was the final attempt to save this woman’s life.

“From this event, I can highlight two positives… the existence of a higher power… and the invaluable role of rural volunteers from fire departments and paramedic services in local communities. The real heroes are these individuals,” he emphasized.

He detailed their encounter on social media, mentioning their intention to proceed with their original planned excursion over the weekend.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the identity of the woman rescued by the men as Ms. Woessner.
