Prince William’s wealth surpasses that of the King, boasting a net worth of £1.2 billion through the Duchy of Cornwall. Since assuming the title of Prince of Wales, William has paid over £20 million in taxes. The revelation of William’s financial standing came to light as the accounts for the Sovereign Grant were made public, shedding light on the financial affairs of the royal household, including the King’s personal wealth derived from the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall, which William inherited upon becoming Prince of Wales.
New figures indicate that Prince William’s net worth via the Duchy amounts to £1.2 billion, exceeding that of his father, King Charles. In the latest Duchy accounts, it was revealed that the prince received a private income of £21.6 million in the financial year 2025-26. On the other hand, Charles’s personal fortune, as per the Sunday Times Rich List, stood at £640 million, reflecting a £30 million increase from the previous year.
In a move towards transparency regarding royal finances, both the King and Prince William disclosed their private tax payments. William’s contributions included £7.76 million in income and capital gains tax for the year 2024-25, and £8.34 million for 2023-24.
Additionally, Prince William has opted to forego personal benefits from the £1.5 million annual rent generated by the now-abandoned Dartmoor Prison, diverting these funds towards community regeneration efforts. This decision follows the closure of the prison due to health concerns related to high levels of radon gas.
A community-led regeneration fund will be established to provide social, economic, and environmental benefits to Princetown and its surrounding areas. Prince William’s private secretary, Ian Patrick, emphasized the prince’s commitment to supporting the local community amid the closure of the prison.
As the 25th Duke of Cornwall, William is entitled to annual profits from the billion-pound Duchy landed estate spanning 51,800 hectares across 19 counties. Meanwhile, staffing at Kensington Palace, where William and Kate reside, has increased to 74 employees from 68. Diversity figures indicate a rise in the representation of ethnic minorities among staff members, with 14.9% from such backgrounds, up from 13.2% in the preceding year. Female employees constitute 73% of the workforce, while male employees make up 27%.
