“PM Carney Pledges Cost Reduction and Safety Priorities”

Prime Minister Mark Carney emphasized his government’s commitment to reducing costs for Canadians and protecting national sovereignty, noting that these efforts are still in their early stages. Addressing a gathering of Liberal MPs on Friday, he stressed the importance of cost reduction and safety for Canadians as key priorities in the government’s agenda.

During his address to the Liberal caucus ahead of the upcoming session in the House of Commons, Carney welcomed three new members who won byelections in August. In response to criticisms from the Opposition Conservatives, particularly Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, questioning the impact of his leadership on Canadians’ lives, the Prime Minister highlighted the ongoing progress and future legislative plans.

Carney, who recently participated in an investment summit in Toronto and delivered a speech to the European Parliament in France, described these events as a warm-up to a crucial session in the House of Commons. He announced plans to introduce significant legislation, including the Building Canada Strong Act, aimed at streamlining project reviews by implementing a one project, one review, one year standard.

In addition to the project review streamlining bill, the government intends to introduce a social media and AI regulation bill to address concerns related to online safety and child protection. Carney also mentioned the upcoming release of a new budget during the fall sitting, emphasizing the government’s focus on managing spending efficiently and potentially expanding support for social programs and child care.

Carney concluded by underlining the government’s commitment to maintaining high project standards while ensuring swift decision-making processes. He reiterated the importance of enhancing social programs and child care support, signaling a proactive approach to fiscal planning and public welfare.
