Passengers of EasyJet in a distressing situation at an airport have reported being left without food and water. Dr. Ron Roberts, aged 70, expressed dissatisfaction with the budget airline, stating that travelers were stranded at Montenegro’s Tivat Airport for over 24 hours with no assistance from EasyJet staff. The lack of provisions and accommodations led to overcrowding, causing one passenger to collapse.
Originally scheduled to depart for London Luton at 12:40 the previous day, Dr. Roberts and others are still stuck at the airport due to continuous flight delays, describing the scenario as chaotic. Despite arriving early, the flight was repeatedly postponed, and airport personnel failed to offer support or updates to passengers.
Following the airport closure, Dr. Roberts and fellow passengers from the delayed flight were instructed to find their own lodgings for the night, resulting in some being forced to sleep on the street due to the unavailability of free accommodations in the area. The situation escalated when hungry passengers were prohibited from re-entering the airport after trying to purchase food from the nearby café.
Dr. Roberts emphasized the deteriorating conditions, from being uncomfortable to dangerously unhealthy, mentioning witnessing a man fainting in the corridor. He criticized the airline for its disregard for passenger well-being, highlighting the lack of care and support provided during the ordeal.
In response, an EasyJet spokesperson explained that the flight was delayed due to a bird strike on a previous flight, coupled with air traffic control restrictions. The airline expressed regret for the inconvenience caused, citing limited hotel availability and assuring customers of reimbursement for self-booked accommodations.
The Foreign Office is actively engaging with local authorities to address the situation at the airport. Concerns about the inadequate support provided to passengers by the ground handling provider at Tivat are being investigated to ensure the expected level of customer assistance in such circumstances.
