Almog Italie and his family were nearly home from their Japan vacation when FlyDubai flight FZ1073 suddenly dropped in altitude, causing a roller-coaster-like sensation. Italie described the experience as turbulent and abnormal, prompting concern about the cockpit situation.
The flight had 174 passengers on board when one pilot allegedly stabbed the other, leading to a rapid 17,000-foot descent in under 30 seconds. Italie and others acted swiftly to prevent a crash by intervening in the cockpit.
Following the incident, a spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disclosed the pilot’s heroic actions in overcoming the attacker and enabling a safe landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Passengers remained calm and cooperative, contributing to the successful outcome.
Despite initial uncertainty, the aircraft landed safely, with authorities in Tabuk offering assistance and hospitality to the relieved passengers and crew. The unity and collective efforts on board were credited for saving everyone’s lives, as recounted by passenger Lital Shachaf.
