The UK government’s commitment to assisting outstanding individuals from Gaza with unconditional offers from British universities, provided they have full scholarships or can cover tuition fees, was affirmed recently.
Heba, like numerous other young Palestinians, faces financial constraints and currently resides in a tent with her family on the site where their home once stood. Her plight, emblematic of many in the region, prompted several British celebrities to initiate a fundraising effort. The objective was to generate funds through an online auction to enable exceptional students like Heba to pursue their academic ambitions in the UK.
Celebrities such as Gary Lineker, Brian Cox, Nicola Coughlan, Charlotte Church, and Paloma Faith, among others, contributed items for the Scholars for Gaza auction organized by Phoenix Space. Heba stands to benefit from a portion of the proceeds raised through the initiative, which runs until August 6. To fulfill her aspiration of pursuing a Master’s degree in Design Management at Lancaster University in the UK, Heba needs to raise £32,129. A GoFundMe campaign has garnered over £3,000 towards this goal.
