An individual from Ontario who assaulted a security guard in Slemon Park, P.E.I., and drove over her with his truck has been declared not criminally responsible for his actions. The P.E.I. courtroom learned that the man, Alexy Lacrest, 41, had a known history of mental health issues, specifically bipolar psychosis.
Lacrest had stopped taking his prescribed medication in April, leading to a series of events that unfolded starting from his disappearance from his parents’ residence and culminating in him facing multiple charges, including attempted murder. Despite efforts to locate him by local police when he vanished, he was eventually found in Slemon Park after driving for four days without rest.
The victim, a security supervisor on patrol, encountered Lacrest at Hangar 9 in Slemon Park, where he was behaving erratically. Despite attempting to deter him with honking and flashing lights, the guard sensed something was amiss and followed Lacrest. Subsequently, Lacrest physically assaulted the guard, leaving her with severe injuries, including a broken nose and cuts.
Following the incident, Lacrest was arrested and later deemed not criminally responsible by a forensic psychiatrist due to a severe episode of mania and psychosis he was experiencing. His lawyer emphasized that Lacrest was in a delusional state during the attack, believing in nonexistent threats.
The victim, who suffered extensive physical and psychological trauma, shared the profound impact the assault had on her life, detailing ongoing struggles with physical pain, PTSD, anxiety, and other challenges. She expressed the lasting effects of the incident on her identity and relationships, highlighting the enduring trauma caused by the violent attack.
