The mother of a sailor who has been missing for nearly four decades has made a heartfelt plea to the notorious “Frankenstein” killer, believed to be responsible for his disappearance, urging him to reveal the truth about her son’s fate.
Margaret Parkes, aged 80, firmly believes that her son, radio operator Simon, was a victim of Allan Grimson, 66, during a stopover of HMS Illustrious in Gibraltar in December 1986. Despite the authorities closing the investigation into Grimson last December, Margaret remains convinced that the two-time murderer was involved in her son’s vanishing act, expressing her ongoing quest for justice after all these years, even though Grimson denies any connection to Simon’s disappearance.
In a direct appeal to Grimson, Margaret pleaded, “Please disclose what happened to Simon.” She implored the police to reopen the case, emphasizing the need to understand the true motives of Grimson. Refusing to give up hope for closure, Margaret expressed her determination to seek answers and bring Grimson to justice, highlighting the long-lasting anguish and uncertainty she has endured for almost four decades.
Grimson, dubbed the Frankenstein Killer due to his imposing stature and distinctive appearance, was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2001 for the brutal murders of two young men who served alongside Simon on the Illustrious aircraft carrier. His heinous crimes involved luring the victims to his residence before savagely ending their lives, with the dates of the killings coincidentally aligning with the day Simon went missing.
