Durham police have reported the discovery of aircraft wreckage in the Kawartha Lakes area, as efforts continue to locate a pilot who is missing and believed to have flown into the region. Const. Nick Gluckstein stated in an email on Monday that the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) found debris from the aircraft near Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, approximately a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality. Authorities have not yet confirmed if the debris is from the missing 73-year-old pilot’s single-seat plane, identified as David.
According to a post by the police on Saturday, David departed from Oshawa Airport in the aircraft at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and was scheduled to return by 9:30 a.m. The plane in question is described by the Ontario Provincial Police as a small blue homemade aircraft with the tail marked “FOFZ.” David, an experienced pilot standing at five feet seven inches with a slender build, black grey hair, and a moustache, typically flies in the area south of the Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog, with the last known location of the aircraft believed to be around Balsam Lake.
Const. Gluckstein mentioned that Trenton JRCC and Kawartha Lakes OPP will be joining the search in the vicinity where the wreckage was discovered.
