Mike Morreale is set to make a return to the CFL by taking on the role of president for the Ottawa Redblacks.
The appointment of the former slotback has been reported by TSN. However, the Redblacks declined to confirm the news when approached by CBC News on Tuesday afternoon.
Hailing from Hamilton and aged 55, Morreale had a successful 12-year career playing for the Toronto Argonauts (1995-96, 2002-03) and the Tiger-Cats (1997-2001, 2004-06), clinching two Grey Cup victories in 1996 and 1999.
Recognized as the league’s top Canadian in 1998, Morreale also received the Tom Pate Memorial Award two years later for his exceptional contributions to his team, community, and the CFL Players’ Association (CFLPA).

Morreale later held positions with the CFLPA as its marketing director (2007-12) and president (2012-14).
In 2017, Morreale was a co-founder of the Canadian Elite Basketball League and served as its first commissioner. He stepped down from this role in October 2025.
The Redblacks recently broke a 22-game losing streak in their final home game of a challenging season. Adrian Sciarra exited his position as the team’s president back in August.
