A massive illegal waste dump weighing 7,500 tonnes has been uncovered near a football stadium in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Drone footage revealed a substantial accumulation of household and commercial garbage spread out along a stretch of land close to Valley Parade. The site was littered with hundreds of black bin bags, towering piles of waste, and rusting containers, including the back end of a large lorry.
The extensive dump extended over a 50-meter strip opposite the home ground of Bradford City FC. Local residents became alarmed during a recent heatwave when a foul odor permeated the area, prompting them to keep their windows and doors shut. The Environment Agency (EA) has initiated an investigation and is actively working to identify the individuals responsible for this unlawful disposal.
An anonymous resident disclosed that peculiar trucks were observed entering the site during early mornings and evenings. The resident mentioned that the issue came to light amid the heatwave when a putrid smell engulfed the neighborhood, leading many to speculate about the activities on the locked land parcel on Midland Road.
Expressing deep dismay, Manningham’s Independent councillors denounced the illegal dumping as a blatant disrespect for the community and the environment. They emphasized that such actions would not be tolerated in Manningham and stressed the importance of holding the responsible parties accountable through appropriate legal measures.
The councillors promptly reported the matter to the Environment Agency following concerns raised by residents. Preliminary findings suggested that heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) from outside the area were involved in dumping the waste, indicating a potentially organized operation that is deemed highly condemnable.
The Environment Agency confirmed receiving reports on July 1 and dispatched officers to assess the situation. They estimated that multiple tons of mixed household and commercial waste had been illegally disposed of and are pursuing various leads to track down the culprits while ensuring the site’s security.
Ben Hocking, the area environment manager at the Environment Agency, affirmed their commitment to investigating and prosecuting those involved in the illegal waste dumping, emphasizing the agency’s proactive approach in combating waste crime and protecting communities.
Councillor Ian Walker from Bradford Council acknowledged the ongoing investigation led by the Environment Agency and pledged the council’s full cooperation in addressing the issue.
