A man armed with a knife unlawfully entered the residence of a young mother and fatally stabbed her while she was sleeping alongside her spouse and three-month-old infant, according to court proceedings.
Daniel Sean James, aged 46, is accused of assaulting Kirandeep Kaur, 24, in her home in Hayes, situated in west London, on the morning of July 12. Subsequently, he leaped out of a window, fracturing both of his ankles, before being apprehended by law enforcement officers in close proximity, as disclosed at the Old Bailey trial.
Before the alleged attack, James purportedly traversed a playing field in Hayes attired entirely in black attire and carrying a sizable knife. Surveillance footage and doorbell cameras captured him approaching three different residences before reportedly sneaking up on a man in his twenties on the street and stabbing him in the back.
Shortly thereafter, around 7:51 am, he is said to have forcefully entered the home shared by Mrs. Kaur, her husband, and their infant while they were asleep. The husband was roused by his wife’s scream and witnessed a figure exiting the bedroom, as asserted by prosecutor Charlene Sumnall.
Within two minutes, James exited the property on Uxbridge Road by jumping out of a window from the kitchen-living room area, the court was informed. Despite sustaining injuries to both ankles, he purportedly attempted to flee but collapsed after a brief distance.
The court was informed that it took approximately 24 minutes from the initial sighting of the defendant until police arrived at the scene. Mrs. Kaur sustained a fatal stab wound to the chest and was declared deceased at 8:26 am.
Reportedly, both victims were unknown to the defendant, who received medical treatment before being taken into custody. He has since been charged with the murder of Mrs. Kaur, attempted murder, and possession of a bladed weapon.
On Thursday, James, a resident of Mercer Place in Pinner, west London, appeared via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs at Court One of the Old Bailey. Judge Nigel Lickley KC scheduled a plea hearing for October 1 and provisionally set a three-week trial to commence on April 5 next year.
During the proceedings, James only confirmed his identity and was remanded in custody.
